Money To ‘A Hell of a Lot of Enemies’

“There’s 600 billion dollars going out of this country every year for the purchase of oil. That’s four times what the Iraqi war costs. Somebody has got to come up with a plan to stop that. That’s going to a few friends and a hell of a lot of enemies.” -T. Boone Pickens at the Energy Conference, held April 23 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

With prices as high as they are now, Pickens predicted that we’ll probably be looking at $150 a barrel before long.

Pickens’ plan to change things?

“I think you’ve got to go to renewables. You’ve got to get natural gas over transportation fuel. Natural gas will replace diesel and gasoline.”

In case you haven’t heard, Pickens is about to embark on constructing the world’s largest wind farm. He said his company, Mesa Power, will invest $10 billion on wind and is planning to buy enough land in the Texas Panhandle for 2,700 wind turbines that will generate 4,000 megawatts of electricity.

You can view a short video of Pickens’ interview with Oklahoma State University president Burns Hargis here.
