Pay Now Or Pay Later

One of the many ideas to help cut gas prices that is encircling Washington is the idea to suspend the gas tax, as John McCain proposed at the end of April. Sure, 18.4 cents off the price of every gallon sounds like a nice discount, but it really is a quick fix. Gas tax money is hypothetically used on road repairs. So essentially…

Quick fix
4 dollars/gallon - 18.4 cents/gallon = 3.81 6/10/gallon
Long term repercussions
3.81/gallon + road repair costs x number of months without gas tax = unknown amount

So do we stick with our steady 18.4 cents on the gallon, or run the risk of what might happen to our road without the gas tax, and pay for that over time?
